High School Program
Driving it Home

Accident Awareness provides a motivational digital media presentation which encompasses fundamental aspects directly related to adolescents and dangerous driving. The topics included in our presentation are a direct result of extensive research conducted by members of the Accident Awareness team
Our High School Programs
Accident Awareness offers two High School programs, redesigned to fit today's pandemic situation. Who better to tell stories about hazards to young drivers and pedestrians than those on the front lines who investigated tragic wreckage on our roads and highways?
Driving It Home
Driving it Home is our most popular program redesigned as a one-hour virtual presentation that covers most of the reasons for injuries and death among our young people today. Students will come away from this impactful presentation with knowledge of good habits to help them Survive The Day.
Some of the topics discussed include:
- Distracted Driving
- Use of Seat Belts
- Speeding
- Reaction Time
- Impaired Driving
- Stunt Driving
- Some Pedestrian Mistakes
- Intersections
The Pedestrian Impact
Our second high school virtual program is excellent for all high school students but geared for students in grade 9 and 10 who are not yet of driving age.
Some of the topics discussed include:
- What is a pedestrian
- The most dangerous places on the road for pedestrians
- Walking along the street
- Use of cell phones on the street, at an intersection, and crossing the street
- Clothing at night
- Wearing seatbelts as a passenger in motor vehicles
It's a fact!
It’s a Fact is our latest program designed for schools going through this Covid Pandemic. It allows students and teachers to listen to knowledgeable safety speakers, to watch a targeted video presentation while observing safety protocols as set down by your school district.
Some of the topics discussed include:
- The Pedestrian Impact
- Seat Belts
- Street Racing/Stunt Driving
- Impaired Driving
- Distracted Driving
- How to get safely out of a moving vehicle when feeling unsafe due to driver actions
Speeding
Young drivers aged 16-24 have the highest rate of motor vehicle crashes.

Seat Belts

Street Racing
Due to new traffic law, an individual found to be going 50km/h over the speed limit is required to pay harsh fines in addition to the impounding of their vehicle.
Reaction Time
In a survey of 1200 Canadian drivers, 72% of respondents believed that greater efforts are needed to prepare teens to drive more safely.
Careless/Dangerous Driving
For the past 10 years, motor vehicle related injuries have been the leading cause of injury and death of persons under 25 years of age.
Impaired Driving
Almost 36 % of all fatality collisions involve alcohol at a reading of twice the legal limit
Distracted Driving
In Ottawa, over the past five years, young drivers aged 16-24 were involved in over 489 motor vehicle collisions due to inattentiveness.
Aggressive Driving
Considered to be a direct result of inexperience and lack of maturity.
Pedestrian Mistakes
Transport Canada noted a particularly dramatic rise in 2004 in the pedestrian hospitalization rate from 38% to 50%.
